The "Eco" in Tiloreza Volcanoes Ecolodge

We have partnered with OneTreePlanted.  Every time we get a new guest, we will plant a tree. Rwanda's forests support a wealth of biodiversity and natural resources but have been subject to deforestation. Smallholder farmers feel the impact of that degradation and understand the importance of landscape restoration for water, energy and food security. The tree planting is in partnership with a women’s  cooperative, led by local farmer, Agnes Uwifashije, to revive land in Mukura.

Tiloreza is one of the first hotels in Rwanda to go solar.  We expect to be able to use the sun's power by mid-December.  This will allow us to power the electricity in most of our rooms with just solar.  This will reduce diesel emissions in the area.  In fact, each year of solar use will be the equivalent of planting over 500 trees.

You may already know, from your arrival in Kigali, that Rwanda is one of the few countries that have made plastic bags illegal.  In support of this effort, Tiloreza has eliminated all plastic water bottles at our hotel.  The glass bottles are more expensive but the planet and you are worth it.
